Beacon Rock

On our way home from camping in Oregon this past weekend, we stopped at Beacon Rock in Vancouver, Washington and hiked our way up to the top.

Beacon Rock is composed of basalt, stands 848 feet tall, and was named by Lewis and Clark in 1805. Surprisingly, the hike itself wasn't too treacherous. We got to the top pretty quickly and I didn't complain at all. ;) The Columbia River was looking mighty fine from way up there!

According to wiki, there are 51 switchbacks, handrails, and bridges on Beacon Rock. I can't imagine what it must have been like to build bridges on that thing. Good job, humans. I'd definitely recommend stopping at Beacon Rock if you're ever passing through Vancouver, but if you're afraid of heights, maybe you shouldn't. (Just kidding. Sorta.) Happy Sunday!
